A quick guide to the main types of mortgage product. We will explain which suits you during your consultation.
Your interest rate stays the same for a set period, often two or five years, so your payments are predictable. Early repayment charges usually apply if you leave during the fixed period.
Your rate follows a base rate, usually the Bank of England base rate, plus a set margin. Payments can go up or down as the base rate changes.
The rate is linked to the lender's own variable rate and can change at any time. Discount products offer a reduction from that rate for a period.
Your savings are linked to your mortgage and reduce the balance you pay interest on, while remaining accessible.
Each monthly payment covers interest and part of the loan, so the mortgage is fully repaid by the end of the term if all payments are made.
Your payments cover the interest only. You will need a suitable plan to repay the full loan at the end of the term.
Your questions answered
It depends on your circumstances, your plans and how much certainty you want over your payments. We will explain the options and recommend what we believe is most suitable for you.
Usually, yes, when your current deal ends. Switching during a deal may mean paying early repayment charges, so we will always check before recommending a change.
